1969 Volkswagen Beetle Custom Split Window Hot Rod.
Whoever built this car spared no expense. The fabrication on this car is outstanding.
All the body, fenders, hood, trunk, doors, running boards, etc are metal, not fiberglass. The top has been chopped. It has electric suicide doors, power windows, split rear windows, tilt steering wheel, custom dash and steering wheel, Scat shifter, 4 wheel disc brakes with line lock system, Budnik wheels, bigger rolled fenders, and ‘59 Cadillac tail lights.
The motor is a 162-hp 2387 cc that was built by Bernie Bergmann, a VW Engine Specialist from Hemet, CA. His signature is on the heat shield. We replaced the spark plugs and installed a new battery. The motor runs really strong with good oil pressure and no heating problems. It sounds like a racing engine (Please see video).
A piston sound can be detected when the motor is running cold, but it dissipates when the engine warms up. From our mechanic's opinion, the motor was built for high-end horsepower. The forged pistons and higher clearance between the cylinder wall and pistons are responsible for the louder sound when running cold. A personal friend of the previous owner (who is deceased) said there was less than 3000 miles on the engine. In a 10-mile test drive the transmission upshifts and downshifts without any flaws, the clutch is smooth, and the car sticks to the road with authority.
The interior is perfect with flawless white upholstery. Everything was custom made for the dash, panels, headliner, carpet, interior lighting, door handles, and trunk lining. A Pioneer sound system is located in the glove compartment with Dynamat sound insulation installed throughout.
The exterior is very nice. It does have minor chips and blemishes that are difficult to notice. So the new owner doesn’t have any surprises, these blemishes include:
Pitting on the front headlight bezels.
A small ¼ bubble in the paint on the rear deck lid.
A barely detectable dent on the passenger side door.
A small scratch driver side floorboard.
A crease in the left rear fender.
A stone chip on the right rear fender.
Stone chips below the rear deck lid.
Scratches on the door window tinting on both the passenger and driver side.
It is very nice underneath with no evidence of damage or rust repair.
