. None of these items have been professionally authenticated that I'm aware of and I am NOT an expert myself. Anything mentioned herein is simply my uneducated opinion. That said, all sales are final and returns will not be accepted unless item arrives damaged. Please take that into consideration and please ask any and all questions you may have before bidding.
This appears to be a genuine Scottish Hilt sword personalized to James Mortimer of the London Scottish Rifle Volunteers. The blade has a beautifully detailed etching along both sides and near the handle. This sword has been stored in an enclosed display for years protected from the elements and shows only very minor signs of aging along the inside of the basket and some oxidization on the blade. There are no obvious signs of damage/trauma or degradation on the scabbard or sword.
Etched in the blade is as follows
:
"London Scottish Rifle Volunteers" (along the blade)
"James Mortimer
1. Warwick St.
Regent St.
London
W"
(near the handle on the other side)
Measuring in with a 33" blade and 39 1/2" from end of handle to the tip of the scabbard.
As previously stated, I am NOT an expert but I have done my best to detail this item and point out any noticeable discrepancies that may concern you as a buyer. If I missed any important details or you want me to check something in particular, please ask before bidding. This does not appear to be a reproduction but its authenticity cannot be guaranteed.
Friendly emails from experts with useful information or tips are very welcome but emails from expert trolls trying to school me and say all these items are fake and I'm a horrible person for advertising them as potential originals are not welcome. Thanks! :)
