Description
RARE, Vintage Franklin Mint "Treasure Sword of the Vikings" with 24kt gold plating and stainless steel double edged blade. This sword was one of a series of swords commissioned by the Franklin Mint and forged in Toledo, Spain (the "City of Weapon Makers") by actual sword smiths in 1988. At the time this sword was created, it sold for 0! It is a museum grade replica sword displayed on a solid wood wall mounting board with a decorative Viking ship holding the blade in place. The fine Spanish steel blade features 24kt gold scrollwork and both the pommel and the hilt are plated in 24kt gold. This sword measures 38 1/2" in length, 4 1/4" at its widest point, and 1" in depth, and weighs a mighty FOUR pounds. The blade itself is 32" in length and the tang is 6 1/2" long. The mounting board measures 46" in length, 11" in width and 1 1/4" in depth with a hanger on the back, ready for your wall.Included is the Franklin Mint Certificate of Authenticity, which states: "Of all the many weapons that a mighty Viking warrior possessed, including knife, spear and axe, there was one weapon prized above all others: as inflexible as the hand of the towering, bearded giant who wielded it, even the sight of its cold blade and the threat of its thunderous blow could freeze mens' blood to ice; this steely extension of the Viking warrior's arm was his life's honor and glory and the key to Valhalla; never far from his grasp in life and laid always by his side in heroic death, this weapon of terrible and fatal effectiveness was his Sword."
The sword is in excellent used condition but there is a very slight nick to the 24kt gold plating on the pommel (see photo # 11) and very slight rust mark on the tip of the blade (see photo #12). The solid hardwood display board has a few issues, such as the lower left bottom medallion missing (see photo #4) and slight scuffing of the felt display due to the sword rubbing on it. These are minor problems and in no way detract from the beauty of this showpiece.
