:: The Knight Bastard Medieval Sword ::
14th Century, Type XIV. The Royal Armouries, Leeds.
The Knight Bastard Medieval Sword is a classic example of the Medieval swords found during the later part of the 14th C. These battle ready swords, along with their similar counterparts, were commonly used by the nobility during the 100 years war, a series of conflicts waged from 1337 to 1453 between England and France. The Medieval Knight Bastard sword is an inspirational piece, based on historical models of the same period. While conceptualising the Knight Medieval sword, the Darksword Armory staff's focus was creating the clean historical lines presented on the guard and battle ready sword blade.
The Medieval Knight blade, displaying a considerable taper, was common during the medieval swords of the 14th C. Such blades were conter the protective measures implemented by the ever increasing plate armors emerging during the start of the 14th C. Given this tendency, numerous medieval sword with long, narrow, deeply taper blades and strong thrusting tips were increasingly favoured not only by the German and Italian armies, but also by the English, and later the French. The long hand-and-a-half handle allows the sword to be handled in either one handed or two handed fashion. The Medieval Knight Bastard battle ready sword is among the staff's top five favorite medieval sword in our collection due to its clean lines, superb handling characteristics, and beautiful blade geometry. While the base of the blade provides the strength to cut through opponents, the strong yet tappered tip allows for deadly thrusting, superior precision and effective stabbing.
