Vintage Navajo Indian Silver Petrified Wood Pin Colorful Scenic Brooch 1930s 40s

With a wonderful petrified wood oval set in silver, this vintage Native American brooch is handsome and so striking.  The bezel-setting is surrounded with a silver "rope" and at the bottom is a bib of scallops with stampwork, flanked by bracket shapes.  What
makes
this brooch, of course, is the colorful petrified wood and the way the artist brought out the colors and the design.  Two shapes appear to fly or float across the surface, like animals flat out, or some kind of spirits (and looking at it makes the haunting song "Ghost Riders in the Sky" run around in my head).  The patterns and the colors are painterly, appearing to have depth, dimension and movement.  (Please note: the colors may appear a little brighter/different on your computer monitor than in person.)
The brooch measures about 1-5/8" wide by about 1-5/16" tall by about 1/4" deep.  It
weighs 14.7 grams.
It is not signed but is sterling or a slightly lower grade of silver.
It is in Very Good vintage condition with just surface dirt, scratches and tarnish commensurate with age, giving it a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.  There are marks on in the silver on the lower back (not visible from the front) that appear to date from manufacture.  And there are the usual inconsistencies in execution (noted in the scallops and their stampwork) that only add to the piece's hand made charm and give a sense of "the hand of the artist."  There are no flaws of consequence and this brooch is quite dramatic.
